This self-guided scavenger hunt takes you through lesser-known corners of beautiful Presidio Park, leading you to fascinating landmarks, secret paths, and panoramic views that even longtime locals may have missed. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, this trail offers something new for everyone!
The Discovery Trail is a specially curated route that takes you on an exciting journey through 11 key locations and a bonus location in Presidio Park. With your Discovery Trail Map in hand, you’ll:
Hike through historic trails and scenic viewpoints
Learn about early California missions, military history, and native Kumeyaay lands
Search for special landmarks, architectural features, and hidden clues
Engage with bite-sized history facts and fun activities at each stop
Every stop on the trail includes a mini educational moment — designed to spark curiosity, inspire learning, and celebrate the unique cultural and natural beauty of this beloved San Diego park.
Are you up for a challenge? As you explore the Discovery Trail, you’ll complete a scavenger hunt full of clues, riddles, and tasks to test your observation skills. When you finish the trail and submit your completed activity sheet, you’ll earn a limited-edition Discovery Trail Patch — created exclusively for trailblazers like you!

This trail was thoughtfully designed and developed by Girl Scouts Zeya, Lulu, Isabella and Liliana of Girl Scout Travel Troop 21 as part of their Silver Award, which recognizes leadership, community service, and innovative problem-solving. The scouts wanted to help more people connect with Presidio Park’s rich history and hidden beauty — and create a fun, educational experience for future generations.

Please note that Presidio Park and the Serra Museum, as a National Register District and historic building designed in 1928, do not meet current standards of accessibility. There are multiple elevations, including uneven surfaces and paths, some sloped or with stairs, and few with handrails.
